"tool are better when their songs have no tangible subject matter"

Pretty sure that's not what he's saying.

Well, they're my favorite band ever and I think Maynard is their weakest member. Lyrically he's repeating himself for decades and when he tries to sound deep he ends up sounding rather juvenille/preachy. I consider him an excellent melody composer and great vocalist though.

I can take his lyrics seriously when they're vague, since I can attribute them any meaning I wish. Lateralus and Fear Inoculum are the best at that. Aenima is awfully specific and uninteresting in that annoying Maynard kind-of-way.

I just wish it was a J-Pop album and rightfully re-titled Aenime, with cute japanese lyrics and compressed production. Oh well.

my bad, forgot that Invincible was a self-portrait as a tragic hero...but then again reflexive works are dependent on there being a kinda mirror effect in order to hear the speaker+object at the same time
so in the sense of that imagery it is still not tangible :[

I love how you're always in here stirring the pot, Johnny.

Invincible would probably in my top, like, 15 Tool songs if the lyrics weren't so on the nose

But 3776 is so compressed it turns inside out and becomes a black hole. Worst production I've heard on a J-Pop record and I'm not even sarcastic! Not even I can handle that much Japanese flatness and trust me I like them as flat as they get.

This album is what Floyd did in a momentary lapse of reason, but nobody can say anything bad because IT'S GILMOUR.

Fuck off
