Aside from Fitter Happier agreed. ...Like Clockwork is very diverse, lots of psychedelic influences on there too

Sick dig Talons dude, how is it compared to other Neurosis albums?

Fires Within Fires is fantastic, their best since The Eye of Every Storm imo

ALA based on those descriptions Like Clockwork is definitely the only one that appeals to my taste... Not that I couldn't be opened up to some new styles of course. But generally if it has the word "metal" in it in any way I run away as fast as I can.

Not of their albums are "metally" besides the songs that Nick Oliveri sings.

ALA are you talking about Neurosis or QOTSA?

"what about Song For The Dead, is that not "metal-y"?"
Not really, I get more hard rock vibes than metal.
"Lol Nick Oliveri doesn't even seem like a metal vocalist so i don't know where you got that idea."
Yeah not a good statement I made, but ah well.

ALA if you really want to experience Neurosis I'd say just start with Souls At Zero and keep going chronologically, not a bad album there. If you want to just start with the best material though, I'd say go for Through Silver in Blood, or The Eye of Every Storm for a pretty equal dosing of post-rock/ambient/electronic along with the post-metal.

Agreed with Talons, go in chronological. You see how they develop and expand and it's pretty marvelous to analyze it.
Don't forget about pre-Souls at Zero!

I still haven't jammed their first two, am afraid they'll disappoint. The Eye of Every Storm is probably my favorite, but I haven't jammed Silver in a while.

The Word as Law is pretty underrated man, I suggest trying it out sometime.

Don't they play hardcore punk before Souls at Zero? I gotta hear that
|

yeah

Yep. I'm not a big fan of their debut, but Word as Law is their earliest example of them starting to grow into the band they're known as today. They started to experiment with more textured songwriting.
