"Only person who comes close to nailing that style is Jimmy Ryan, and to be fair, he's pretty damn good at it, especially on Trenches' material."
Yuppp. Also everyone go listen to Trenches. Reckoner was amazing and the band needs more love.

"ultraviolet isnt amazing but it has aged better than i thought it would. jammed it like a month ago and dug it more than i ever did on release. kicking karl still an abysmal move that makes them look kind of like asshats tho"
I thought Karl left on his own accord? I mean its been quite awhile so I could obviously misremember it.

Nah Karl was booted by the band, but it was a complicated situation. Karl felt like he didn't have an actual say in the direction of the band, and instead of addressing it with the group he bottled it up and then spiraled out of control. Karl, by his own admission, wrote basically none of the lyrics on Absent Light and was so depressed and in a hole that they had to drag him kicking and screaming to the studio to actually record the album.
The band made the correct decision to give him the boot shortly after that. Karl himself has said that this was the right decision, and has apologized to the band publicly for being dead weight during the years surrounding Absent Light.

"“How dare they?!” For them to simply tell me my services were no longer required after essentially putting “real life” on hold, and investing 9 years into helping them to continue living out their dream. No severance package, no two weeks notice, just simply: “welp...See ya later”. It’s taken a lot of time and self-reflection to realize their decision to remove me from the equation wasn’t out of malice (bad reference, I know), but as a necessity for both parties to be able to continue a healthy existence"
i mean im glad he can forgive them and all and agree it was the "right" decision now but that was a pretty shitty way for them to have handled it. karl was deeply deeply mentally ill at that time and thats not the way to treat a mentally ill friend of yours. doesnt seem intentional as much as the result of their own poor communication skills and yeah "tHe bAnD iS a bUsINesS" but fuck i hope they learned something reading all that afterwards at least

I don't blame him for being pissed if he felt he had no say, but damn at least be courageous enough to TELL THEM

"I'm still pulling for one more Living Sacrifice album too""
a surprise mention, but a welcome one. Hammering Process/Conceived in Fire-era LS had some great tunes
