Great pick of a concert Dungeon, I have seen them in 2017 and this year was far much better! Less fuck ups and great solos!
I also love that they played Dirty Window lately, did not see it but great to see some St Anger !

would love to hear a studio recording of this new version of dirty window they've started playing in recent years... rather different from the og

"Also, don't they exclusively play stadiums nowadays? lol"
yes and i think its purely for optics rather than necessity at this point. like others have said it seems like there's a lot of empty seats at these shows

They release four live videos per concert, I'm hoping it will be one of them. The sound is also rather good on those recording. I also bought the live CDs of the two shows I went to, sound is also pretty good to be honest!

They really could be playing amphitheaters just judging by how many seats are left in my city.

anyone watch rick beato's two hour kirk interview?
feel like the biggest revelation, and something i personally have been very critical of him for throughout this thread... is the degradation of his skills through a seeming lack or practice. couldn't be further from the truth... dude seems completely addicted to playing guitar and learning how to play very non-metallica sounding things both old and new. throughout the video he plays a lot of random guitar licks that i never imagined i'd hear come from kirk hammett. there was point where he said he scrolls through instagram and sees guitar clips, and then stops whatever he's doing and maniacally learns them, then he randomly starts playing this pretty intricate genesis song and was like "i learned this yesterday!"
i almost got the vibe that his solos are boring here not because kirk is lazy and doesn't care, but because he feels like metallica is just not the outlet where he can play the sort of stuff he wants to play (or is not confident enough to try idk) and has to stick with playing stuff people/the band "expects" kirk to play. he said multiple times he plans on dropping a ton of solo music in the near future that won't sound anything like metallica. couple that with him constantly name dropping miles davis and john coltrane and his hard-on for improvisation that he wishes he could do in metallica but can't... he comes like he feels he's creatively trapped almost
otherwise there isn't a lot in there that a die hard metallica fan hasn't already heard in interviews before. i do find kirk (and jason) to be by far the most interesting metallica interviews. james is too guarded and over it, lars a little too domineering and repetitive, rob seems muzzled almost... but kirk seems to genuinely enjoy talking about metallica still, and in an actually honest non-pr driven way

i watched it yeah, the part where he talks about how much he loves the wah was my favorite.
Also they were absolutely incredible live last weekend

yeah that was def a highlight... especially when he talked about wanting to copy dimebag's wah (aka kirk's goat wah) when kirk and dunlop were working on his own signature wah, but simply couldn't because of how much he respects dimebag and started tearing up. dude is extremely authentic for someone of his status

for sure man, Kirk is awesome

wow, not gonna listen to the whole interview but that’s kind of sad. I can imagine being trapped in a hugely popular metal band for forty years, while obviously extremely lucrative, can be creatively frustrating.

@Alex Kirk was one of my guitar idols growing up, too bad his playing never evolved (in metallica) whatsoever

honestly Kirk should just really go for it when they’re done touring for this. I’d love to hear what else he can do even if it doesn’t completely land.

the interview isn't sad at all, it's actually really awesome to hear how much he still loves playing guitar, even in Metallica. He talks about how he has to play certain solos the way they were written for the fans like the intro solo on One, and Fade to Black or whatever, and that they are more "parts" than "solos", but when it comes to rippin it up live on the ending solos he goes HAM on whatever he is feeling in that moment. I witnessed it, it was amazing. No need for pity here, he seems to be loving what he does, and still makes time to write stuff outside of Metallica

yeah its def not as dire as i might've made it out to be... just that what he was saying greatly contrasts with people's perception of him. dude obv still loves metallica and even said something along the lines of "we are touring less than we ever have, but i could def be touring more!"
