A higher plane of existence that requires using generic speedy USBM riffs that have beaten to a dead horse for the last decade with a bunch of experimental flourishes patched over it.

Here's a little red pill for you. 99% of metal bands use generic riffs.

"Here's a little red pill for you. 99% of metal bands use generic riffs."
Heres another little red pill for you. Criticizing a band for using one style of generic riffs doesnt mean that you dont think other bands use more typical riffs as well. Its a pill that you apparently fucking need to have slammed into your throat because almost every interaction Ive had on this site with you, you always end up making this shitty cop-out argument of "LoL eVeRyThInG iS gEnErIc".
I can listen to bands that arent groundbreakingly unique while criticizing Hunter for using some of the laziest shit in his music.

Lmao at anyone thinking Liturgy is a good band

Album Rating: 4.5
Calling Liturgy pretentious is a worthless and platitudinous critique at this point, although I will admit it is nowhere near as riveting as some of have claimed it is, as I must also admit I quite liked the record.
I remember Anthony Fantano claiming in his review of the record (which he accorded a lofty 9/10) that it featured crescendos which no post-metal band could ever match, and I recall dying a little inside. Like seriously, crescendos partially gain their impact through being juxtaposed with more minimalist moments and Liturgy's music is, for the most part, entirely maximilist.
I would take a Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Fall of Efrafa or Amenra crescendo over a Liturgy crescendo any day, at least those bands know how to craft atmosphere and suspense and capitalize on those conditions in a musical way.

@Darius the Great I wouldn't necessarily call him dumb, but I find some of his musical takes, especially as they pertain to metal records or prog records totally bemusing in a bad way.

It's not a cop out argument. You can't criticise one band for using "generic riffs" and then overlook it for every other band. Just say you don't like bm riffs, there is nothing wrong with that.

Yeah Fantano isnt a total dumbass but when it comes down to Metal a lot of the shit he says is like.....wuuuuut.

@GhandhiLion What's up with you making all of these dubious, sweeping generalisations about metal music? I mean, sure homogenization and saturation of aesthetic and style occur within any genre with established musical formulas and metal music is no different in this regard, but I wouldn't necessarily consider metal music an outlier either.

"You can't criticise one band for using "generic riffs" and then overlook it for every other band."
If you genuinely stand by this bullshit then that would invalidate literally any critique of something being average or redundant.

"she's literally said that she hates bm as a genre numerous times before but still insists on restating and shitting upon its minutiae every time an artist in that genre gets brought up for some reasonĀ "
I do like a few BM bands.

@mementomori
Are you talking about my classic album comment?
"people wayy overstate the creativity and variance of metal music as a whole"
idk about that. Metal has evolved quite well in the 2000s+, more so than most rock subgenres
@DeadBitchAlexis
I do, and all attempts to call any music average are invalid.

@Darius the great I do not know of these metalheads that glorify metal on a regular basis, although I'm sure one's love for a genre can cause one to ignore its various flaws, be they explicit or inexplicit. I also agree with you on Athony Fantano, although I must also admit I sometimes find his elucidations a tad lacking, especially when he employs such terms as 'polished' when referring to a record's production, but fails to adequately explain what he means by this.
P.S. I'm actually not intentionally articulating myself in a formal-lad manner, or rather I was taught in school and within my immediate surroundings that one ought to express themselves in such a manner, regardless of the circumstances. It sort of happens naturally.

@daruis the great, I've seen certain examples sure, what I was merely trying to argue is that my anecdotal experiences do not adequately validate any sweeping generalisations about the metal community as a whole and the general stance of its members regarding the originality of metal music.
