"damn this actually lives up to the hype"
You know what Atari, I've been reflecting upon this, sput hype, good albums, etc and I think I achieved a conclusion;
1. If it's pop or pop punk avoid it, it's probably overrated af.
2. If it's Sowing hyping it there is a 10% chance it's good, minimal, but there is hope.
3. If it's death, black or doom metal, it's usually spot on.
4. If it's non of the above, chances are you'll be the only one rating it.

I kinda like the messiness. The actual tone reminds me a little of None So Vile's.
Now those are some good hot takes dewi. I agree with all four wholeheartedly

@Dewi: 1) absolutely, apart from very occasional exceptions, 2) sounds accurate enough, 3) death yes. black maybe but not always. I know nothing of doom.
4) if it's core pay good attention to whether it progs (will suck) and/or which specific users are rating it highly, the average is likely to be misleading.

Nice additions Demon, agree.

What are your conclusions though?
Wait. Are you also implying that taste is an objective thing?

Disclaimer: Results may vary/you may want to come up with your own criteria to suit personal taste/tendencies. I didn't think this was necessary, but here we are.

There's a small section, on the last track I believe, that sounds like it came straight from Gorguts - Obscura and it's fucking amazing

Lol, Dewi
It’s actually metal albums that are the most overrated around these parts imo. Half the site hates pop punk, so when an album in that genre gets hype across the board it’s usually pretty damn good. But when 90% of death/black metal releases are overrated by default it’s hard to know when we actually have a gem on our hands

metal can be overrated but often good...poppunk can be overrated and often bad

pop punk isn't rated much here, agreed... now post-hardcore, milquetoast genericore or sadboi indie folk bobbins, those ratings be whack.

For one thing, Atari's spot on as far as Lagwagon's Railer is concerned, and I'm not even pop punk (agreed, it's not that 'pop' punk)

New Lagwagon is great, new Good Riddance is great, and the people who who dig old school skate punk still represent here. Kids don't listen to that these days though, pop punk is now just a bunch of dudes playing alternative.

the riffs around the halfway mark on the closing track here sound so reminiscent of Symbolic and it makes me happy. also get some Atheist and Gorguts vibes at times
