If Deadwing was any more emo it would be metalcore

It just bums me that we had a shitty Blackfield album and a mediocre SW album, instead of having another excellent Blackfield album.

Yeah, I doubt at this point that Blackfield will ever return to the quality of those first two records. It kinda bums me out that Steven's pretty much been ditching every project he's been in just to continue his solo work. I think Bass Communion is the only one he's actually been consistent with these days, which is pretty strange considering it's not really one of his most popular projects

Scorpio here
The only Bass Communion release I know of since Cenotaph back in 2011 is the EP Sisters Oregon in 2017.
Over & Over and Falling are the only standouts on the new Blackfield. Between that, The Future Bites, and the new No-Man, Wilson has descended into full-on modern pop rock/electronic music.
Maybe eventually he'll return to the light and do prog again, or at least layered blissful art rock like To the Bone.

The reason I didn't mention the new Blackfield album is because Aviv has pretty much taken it over. Yeah, Steven came back to contribute a little, but almost entirely an Aviv project now
Honestly, I would be cool with Steven continuing the pop rock direction as long as it bears the same quality as something like To the Bone, but unfortunately I don't think that's gonna happen. Based on what I've heard of The Future Bites, I'm probably gonna end up giving it a 3 once I've heard the whole thing. And that would be generous

It’s around a 3 for me, maybe a little lower. I’m really glad there’s gonna be an instrumental version available like with his last 3 solo albums, will enjoy that more. I don’t consider To the Bone pop, besides Permanating. If he continued in the style of it that would be great too.

Looking at your rating actually just made me bump this album down .5. I enjoy it, and I think it's well put together, but I don't think this is anywhere close to Hand or Raven.
