man people are talking about this album like Plastic Beach never happened

plastic beach was at least quirky and had songs that had that "2d-singing-from-a-windmill" feeling that I got from demon dayz. demon dayz was awesome but also had songs that had that trippy "gorillaz-in-a-jeep" vibe of the first album.
this one is just X artist featuring damon albarn trying to do the gorillaz thing, ultimately coming up short. just tryna say that plastic beach was average but still had its charm. this one gets worse with every listen :/

'Momentz' has one of the dumbest instrumentals I've ever heard. I've talked about it here before, but I just want to stress again how Damon said he regretted handling the drum programming on Plasti Beach and "handed it to the experts" on Humanz. Explain 'Momentz' then.

Sex Murder Party does absolutely nothing for me and I genuinely thought that everyone would agree that it's the worst thing Damon has ever done. I have to admit I'm surprised that's not the case. I'm genuinely interested to hear what people like about it.

tbh I don't even bother approaching this thing in the "standard format"
it's all or nothing for me, two or three of the best songs are included in the deluxe tracks anyway, one of the most "Gorillazy" form the entire phase so far with Ticker Tape
so yeah, my rating's for that version, the standard I'd say was 3.0-ish

Sex Murder Party is just an average track on this for me. The 2D chorus is dumb but it sounds nice. It's probably superior to 'Let Me Out' and 'Carnival'.
The line "I'm caught up in this sex, I'm caught up in this murder" always pisses me off though. So fucking lazy. Thankfully the next line isn't "I'm caught up in this party".

It's quickly becoming a top 10 or top 5 track by gorillaz. As much as i want 2D in it, it sounds perfectly ok without him

First listen was awful, second was just as bad, I don't think I have the strength to come back for a third time.

^ actually the worst thing about this album is how, with repeated listens, you realise it's not a bad album. It's just... so average. The highs could have been better, the lows aren't complete faceplants.

Pretty much agree. There are some good songs here that could have done with a little more time/love (Saturnz Barz is the only great song here IMO where I wouldn't change much. Ascension could have been great but the verses are really weak. Submission and Busted and Blue are both good but it feels like they could have a little more umph somehow. Also the Danny Brown part on Submission is interesting contrast but it isn't nearly as good as Kelela's) Couple other songs are fairly enjoyable (like Ticker Tape) but not great

A good album to pick and choose songs to play but as a whole it's a bit messy. That said I still like more songs on here than I dislike by a wide margin.
