*closes cuffs* you have the right to remain silent, Johnny. anything you say can and will end up as a spoken word interlude on my next cringey album.

you can ask Noctus. he served his sentence.

I'm not against candidness here but blurting out you listen to Serpent more than Folklore? Whoa buddy.... Feels like something more appropriate to share with your priest or sponsor not here

lol

yah, I think it's a great listen and pretty underrated...definitely hasn't aged as well with the fans as Marrow has, for sure...I remember the flack that album was getting on release

I get legitimately bummed out when I remember that Serpent exists and is this band's final creative chapter.

I was one of those. I got into them when Ashes came out so the hype for Marrow was insane. I was not happy. It did grow a lot on me over time though

I don't think I ever actually checked out Pillorian, maybe I'll give it a gander.

Serpent disappointed me to such a degree that it kinda made me think I had just outgrown wanting to hear new material in that style at the time. But I'm also older and wiser now, and can recognize that this sound will always rule lol

Marrow did mildly disappoint me when it came out, but only because I had hyped myself way too hard about it. I think it's a phenomenal record now, though it does kinda irk me that it's the record that got the most accoldades and recognition when I think it sits rather comfortably as their fourth best LP

All totally fair. I may be in the minority but that Pillorian record is incredible. It gave me some much needed closure when Agalloch died

I remember everyone being like "uhh okay" about it. where did it get recognition?

Pitchfork and Fantano and NPR blew it up. It was the first time they got that sorta recognition iirc

honestly, shoutout to NPR for giving metal bands the time of day. they've run First Listens on WITTR, Agalloch, and Giant Squid, among others.
