Dan is a beast. I've seen Tesseract three times:
2014 with Ashe, Altered State tour
2015 with Dan,
2018 with Dan, Sonder tour
Ashe had a lot of passion, but completely understandably couldn't hit 100% of the high notes of the studio version, or sustain them quite as long. But it was a great show! And AS will always be my favorite Tesseract album when I put nostalgia for One aside.
2015 Dan was Perfectly Serviceable Dan. It was fine, no complains, he had the typical acrobatic vocalist fatigue you get during a long set, they played a couple AS songs that, understandably again, Dan couldn't nail all the notes from.
Then again, that was the night of the 2015 French terror attacks, like it happened a couple hours earlier, and they called it out first thing before going into the show, maybe it threw them off.
2018 Dan. What the fuck hahaha. He somehow got leaps and bounds better? And I heard he was SICK on that tour? Like, physically ill. But he had a ton of energy on stage, and I specifically noticed how agile his voice was that night. Then they played AS songs, and a couple of non-AS tracks that have falsettos and sustained highs and while I've always liked Dan's vocals from a writing POV, I never really appreciated his abilities themselbes. But that night I really noticed. He was visibly putting in a lot of effort to hit every note and he kind of...hit every note? It was really cool to watch. He got a lot of applause that night.
Since then he's been doing a lot of pandemic streaming and I think that practice has made him even better of a singer. Can't wait to see them on tour eventually again.

Dan is the worst part of this band. With that being said, this album absolutely rips

Idk what to explain tbh. It just too samey. The album is stale before it ends. Some awesome bits are here and there, but overall I start caring less and less about this band. I prefer their poppier side tbh

I gotta disagree but I don't put a whole lot of thought into who is bad in a band when everyone is as tight as TesseracT is.

Completely agree. first four songs are incredible and but the middle is just a slog. The end is ok but doesn't have the same energy as either Polaris or Sonder.

I hate how there's just no dynamics in the kick and snare (apart from the ghost notes being quieter of course)... An organic re-recording without such an insanely awkward guitar tone, way too loud backing vocals, and obvious drum issues, would make this record so much better...

Have you seen this? It's not mixed amazingly but it does definitely sound more like it's being played by humans. In at least one case, it literally is - I remember hearing that they didn't have time to record real drums for this, so it's nice to hear Jay's actual performance.
I think this is one of the only times where I'm okay with sterile production, though.

It was pretty downhill after ONE

Sterile production is never okay. I know this was recorded with an electronic kit but that still isn't an excuse for it to sound this robotic imo...
And yes, record should've sounded like the live performance, I love that video!
