I changed my morning alarm to "Frownland" last week and frankly waking up to Captain Beefheart has been the one and only bright spot of this abysmal year thus far.

I can't do musical alarms. I start hating the song after a while.

That's why you gotta pick a song you already don't like and put it out of arms reach so it forces you to get up
|
| |
I don't hate myself that much

fuck you ghandhi why dont you 5 an album for onc-

I don't ever wind up hating my song alarms, fortunately. (Last one before this was 'Heated Swimming Pool' by Joyce Manor.) However, I am always a tiny bit afraid that I'll be so tired that the song will just integrate itself into my consciousness without actually waking me up.

If this album was as accessible as The Beatles, it would be a 4.6 easily.

This album has too many meh tracks to be a 5, but too many good tracks to be a 1
3 I can understand, but nah 4

This isn’t far from a 5.0. A few of the songs have unnecessary noodling and it’s long enough to make for an enervating experience, but there’s truly nothing like it.
However SAFE AS MILK is still Beefheart’s best.

Which songs are meh? Even the poetry is top tier.

I counted about 10 tracks I find to be meh
Fallin' Ditch and Hobo Chang Ba being the worst of those 10
|
| |
It's not always an entire song e.g. Hair Pie Bake 1 is great, but the last minute or so is useless. Other lower tier tracks are Bills Corpse, Well, Orange Claw Hammer, and The Blimp.
It's n incredible album but it's a wee bit bloated. Plenty of excellence to (mostly) make up for that, though.

Yeah, not every song on here can be as perfect as Ella Guru or Pena
