Post-metal is probably one of the weakest heavy genres tbh, the bands I like I REALLY like, but most post-metal bands I find pretty boring. I think it's a difficult genre to pull off effectively.

Pelican are tight but not many can compare to these guys and thats exactly what ill do with any other post metal band. The only post metal band that I feel can compete with these guys are Agalloch ( progressive post-blackened-melodic neo-doom folk metal if you want to get technical) and Cult of Luna aren't too far behind either.

I've really grown to love post metal. And no way Pelican are great, but not better than Isis.

Dual guitar nuking riffage starting on 3.30 in The Other still gets me every time i listen to it. I'm always wondering how does the music feel so slow and heavy overall, but those riffs are so ridiculously speedy and hard to play (just watch it live too see how much hand movement involved here).

If you are looking something similiar to oceanic era isis, pelican is not even remotely closed to it. Pelican sounds like big riffing is goin on, but music itself is a bit dull emotionally. I listened to pelican a lot, but only some time i realised there is simply no album that replicate or mimic Isis emotional side, and it's deff not a pelican album. Still a descent post-metal band, but in no way can be compared with NeurIsis titan. For those who are looking bands with similiar, hardcore-esque roots as Isis, look no further than Fall of Efrafa trilogy and Locktender, both are really unique bands in this genre, with minimum copycat and gimmicks.
