The poppy side is what I don't like about Deja and of course YFW.

i agree with eternium

there's nothing worse than when a great album is hindered by its own over-production

Both are sweet. I've feel myself enjoying Daisy more though.

Yeah, this. I love the rough and at times Southern sound on here.

all of the first three albums were poppy in their own ways. yfw was more pop-punkish, deja was poppy in a songwriting sort of way, and tdag was poppy in terms of production and the hooks.

idk some songs on here are just weird and unrelatable to me

you could apply that deja and def tdag, but yfw is kind of under-produced.

and it's not the progression that bothers me, I like that each new release makes a new statement for the band. i just didn't like this one.

Not the Sun and The Archers Bow has Broken is so poppy.

TDAG doesn't have that annoying sound that pop music (including pop-punk) typically has. Being catchy isn't bad at all, which is what TDAG has.

would you rather them keep doing some sort of poppy? the poppy brand new is long gone my friends, replaced with a fiercer, more mature sound and it rules

i'd rather have them play music that I like.

its not a progression or a digression. it is basically a horizontal move in terms of progress. it is advanced in terms of musicianship, just in a different way.

it really is though, maybe not an enjoyable one, but the difference between this and TDAG is remarkable.

yeah i still haven't heard yfw but over production is why i don't like deja.

and while there's a few songs on tdag that might be considered over produce (almost entire 2nd half) it makes up for it in other areas. and even so the songs that might be considered over produced are still really great

I don't know, I was hooked on TDAG as soon as I heard it.

Daisy took longer to grow on me.

yes it is gyro and idk how you can say bought a bride is inaudible like your soundoff says that osng is fucking packed with sizzling emotion and it rules

That song isn't 'packed' with anything. The whole album plays in the shadow of older emo music and certain tracks just fail to impress. "You Stole" should have been fantastic, but instead of being pensive and smooth like the introduction suggests, it breaks out into one of the most boring, unimaginative guitar sections which ends up being too loud for its own good and leaves the song structurally disjointed. Similarly, Noro fails to accentuate to any fully realized moments, like the ones found on their previous album. The introduction and closing audio excerpts were an interesting aesthetic choice, but they're not very gripping in any way. I could go on and on, but I have a lot of issues with this album. That said, there are still a handful of very enjoyable tracks here, and it's been a grower for me. However, if I had to say anything, I'd call this a regression. Yes, it's venturing into terrain not yet discovered by the band and they've 'reinvented themselves again!' but that doesn't mean it was a step in the right direction.
