Went up to 4.0. I've been deep into Meshuggah and Opeth and am realizing that even with highly rated bands, most albums are going to be a few amazing tracks and a bunch of ok or even bad ones. It's almost like they do it on purpose, as if all they need are a few good tracks per album since they really make money on live shows. But Koloss and Catch33 actually are pretty consistent and rarely are boring.
Koloss in my opinion should be at 4 but I guess a lot of diehard Meshuggah fans dislike it a bit because it is actually varied track by track...yeah let's rate Chaosphere higher because it is more repetitive and thus more mechanical...and shit! Seriously, Koloss is 10 times better than Chaosphere. If the albums were released in the reverse order that they are in now, Nothing and Chaos would both be below 3.5 easily.

Maybe Chaosphere, but Nothing is like the Meshuggah prototype for their music. Consistent, challenging, experimental metal that would set the standard for the rest of their releases. obZen and Koloss are basically a mishmash of DEI, Chaosphere, and Nothing

"I guess a lot of diehard Meshuggah fans dislike it a bit because it is actually varied track by
track"
that or it wasn't as hardhitting, technical, and dominating as obzen was (but then again as a
diehard fan I expect the more rhythmic approaches, like when they went from Chaosphere to Nothing -
more grooves and less chaos). and diehard fans see the variety in all their songs too - false fucks
can foad.
"If the albums were released in the reverse order that they are in now, Nothing and Chaos would both

what ifs only so far in reality

Ah, okay. I always thought it was just because the songwriting wasn't as strong, it isn't as technical, it isn't as brutal, and it isn't as memorable as prior releases.

I still listen to Chaosphere more than any other 'shugg besides this and Nothing.
It was as ahead of its time and it still fuckin rules. It hits a vein that none of their other albums touch.
