Prince, 976 Evil and You’ve Seen the Butcher are the MVPs for me. When the album first released, YSTB was my immediate favorite. Now I’d give Prince that title. Underrated Deftones song for sure.
Agreed on the last minute of Royal too though.
Not a bad track in here though. Not even a just pretty good one. Everything is very good to great.

Such one. The title is perfect somehow. Doom laden, dread, implication of violence….its just a perfect song—and title.

Album fell off massively for me. There was a point where I would call this my favorite Deftones record, but these days? Idk to me Koi No Yokan has a similar sound but with far more interesting songwriting and a better track to track flow.
And it has Rosemary.

Having said all that, I’m not dropping the 4.5 so that really just goes to show that “weak” for these guys is still better than 99% of the slop that hits the radio.
I’m gonna get so much shit for this but had Gore been given the same production job as this I would absolutely call it the better record, too much of that one just sounds… unpleasant. I would give my left nut for a proper Gore remix/remaster with either Terry or Nick at the helm

Beauty School is so much better than Sextape, which is a little overrated imo.
Anyone else with me?

And it has Rosemary.
Plus Tempest and Leathers, which I put right up there with Rosemary. Not to mention Entombed
But Koi also has some kinda meh tracks, like Graphic Nature and Romantic Dreams (I do like the latter quite a bit, but it’s not up to snuff with their better stuff.
I dunno. Koi has higher highs but this is more consistent. All in all, I rank them pretty equally, but since one has to be above the other, I slot DE a notch above. But just barely.

Prince is one of their best tracks. I know it gets some love, but not nearly as much as it deserves.
