If anything, I think it's those "shoegaze elements" (read: layers upon layers of effects) that draw so many people in (and distracts from the songwriting flaws). The tone for the whole album could give you a toothache.

I'd argue that someone who is really connected to Deftones emotionally has some problems of their own (I'm one of them).
