I'll jam as soon as my bm binge is over, which probably won't be for a while tbh.

I'm not sure by what definition of raw we're using but to me Closer is a lot more emotionally and atmospherically engrossing and even scarier than this. I'd call it more raw

Still think this is great tho

i meant sound sound-wise (not thematically), the guitars, vocals, and songwriting on this are sometimes jarringly raw and unpolished. closer is more "polished" by comparison.

Closer is more polished, yeah. But it is also everything that Gwyn said

"Tbqh I think the definitive way to listen to this band is to listen to their live stuff. The guitarist himself expressed displeasure at the production job of both studio albums and their live performances are so intense compared to all of their studio counterparts"

that's true however honestly the haunting production on this really suits the lyrics and narrative ian provides and i think it's brilliant

i get they were more about pure energy live and more at the punk end of the spectrum than what we call post-punk but i think both the live performances and the album productions can be appreciated in their own right

Yeah, it was all acting. The production really shows the technical qualities of the music.

"What's that Ian, you feel a bit moody? What I'll do is I'll do a bit of twiddlin with this nob. And a 1,2 a 1,2,3,4"

Fantastic (like, you waited for me to break the news to you) album, only Interzone and I Remember Nothing seem like lesser tracks to me. The first...is just a generic punk-rocker, while the latter is, well, let me rap my thoughts about it:

A tuneless, shapeless mess and I confess

I always liked this kind of music less

Than everything else, I digress

It never seemed to caress my ears, god bless my mic, cheers

I had a lot of expectations towards this record, but I can't help but feeling disappointed. The only two excellent tracks are Day of the Lords and Shadowplay. Some of the other are definitely plain and boring.

new dawn fades is one of the best songs of all time, so camilo is objectively wrong as it is.

Yeah New Dawn Fades is indeed one of the highlights, but I can't stand songs like Candidate, Insight, Wilderness and I Remember Nothing, I find them quite boring tbh.
