He did give Beach House good ratings though. He's caught in the mindset that genres need to be in a constant state of flux, based upon the premise that innovation is what deems an album worthy of positivity. He's negatively reviewed Steven Wilson and Opeth on that same basis, effectively labeling them as being tribute bands. There's nothing wrong with wanting to just play some shoegaze or dream pop, as long as it sounds solid. This is a textbook definition of a solid record. It doesn't do anything new, but it's not trying to.

7 is their best next to Bloom. The only 2 5’s from them I have lol. Myth is probably my favorite song of all time tbh.

Yeah 7 is an absolute masterpiece
Fine that obscure bands like deafheaven wanna do that style, it's good. But beach house does it better ;)

You know… Myth and Shellstar kinda sound similar tho. Oooh I like this. Didn’t notice it now til I thought about it. Probably why I love it as much as I do.

opeth and steven wilson did kind of become tribute bands to the styles they created
i stopped listening to opeth with blackwater park, it had already become stale by then and everything i listened after was just unbearably dull
porcupine tree took a bit longer for me to get over them but i can't stand listening to them anymore and the latest steven wilson was just so boring

I don’t know a ton about Steven Wilson other than HCE but I love that album. Routine is a wonderful track.

I totally agree with Opeth, and I especially can't stand how self-righteous and elitist Akerfeldt has become. I loved all of the Steven Wilson records up through the last two though. They were just modern takes on classic prog rock, but I thought that they were really well done.

I haven’t heard Opeth since Still Life. I tried their newest and didn’t get far into it

I can understand Fantano's frustration with a lack of innovation especially when you listen to as much music as he does
How can you expect to enjoy the same "doing absolutely nothing new but still solid I guess" records over the course of decades

As much as a Shoegaze fanatic I am, I am still trying to find one that sounds like this album. If you can point me in the correct direction I’d be open to the concept cuz softer sunbather is all I’m coming up with.

“ I don’t know a ton about Steven Wilson other than HCE…” definitely check out The Raven.

6 out of 10 is too high for kny, if anything, especially considering that it's one of the worst tones albums

Im the wrong one to ask, I've heard very little shoegaze lol. This is just boring as all hell and reminds me of recycled twinkly post-rock tropes

The only time I see that argument is the second chorus of Villain. I hear guitar riffs straight from Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place. But that’s not a bad thing as there are vocals over it and that album rules anyway. I don’t see much else out of post rock tropes here tho

I despise Explosions In The Sky-type build-ups and that breed of post-rock altogether so it's pretty fitting that its shoegaze extension is thoroughly unremarkable to me as well
