I hate the sound of the drums on most of this, honestly. But as a whole, I still enjoy it.

Yeah & when the instrumentation is fairly sparse otherwise, they stand out like a sore thumb.

agreed the drums have no balls whatsoever and make a lot of the beats indistinguishable from all other fake plastic sounding modern pop
at the risk of sounding like a 'get off my lawn' old bastard it removes so much potential enjoyment from a lot of otherwise well written songs that would sound great with actual drums but just have the life sucked out of them by inexplicable replacement of snares with cheap sounding clickety clack handclap shite

I've tried to like this more, but it doesn't touch pure heroine at all

The drums on here are fine lol
Album would sound sooooo awkward with real drums

real drums would be so unfitting, but better quality drums would certainly be appreciated

I didn’t say the drums had to be real, just better. One of my favourite bands uses a drum machine so synthetic drums aren’t an issue for me.

Think that’s why I gave it a go, but it didn’t work, so in ‘musical terms’ I’m a filthy racist

Green Light was easily the best radio hit of last year. Should have been way bigger than it was tbh
|

It was huge ^^
*is not sure how to measure hugen-ess of pop songs anymore in this streaming age*

Green Light is actually considered a flop when it comes to the charts. No where near the impact of Royals.

idk why, that song bangs hard. way better than Royals.

probably because singles charts are best seen as a list of music you should avoid

it's a great song, and definitely better than "royals", it just didn't 'click' with the current pop music context & vibe (indie pop being at the forefront, along with stripped back r&b, etc)
i just hope Lorde doesn't feel pressured to cater more to the mainstream, as a reaction to this "flopping", cuz i love this and i hate that insipid current brand of pop
