Weird for people to say Pygmalion has weak tracks. I think it is more consistently good than this one and even Souvlaki (a rather overrated album I have to say)

I could take Alison, Machine Gun, Space Station and Melon Yellow and happily never hear the rest ever again

Trellisaze is actually one of my favourites on Pyg.
Souvlaki is still excellent (even if I prefer Pyg), I’d add Dagger to that list of essentials.

^Those're the six best songs on Souvlaki, but the other four are great too. The four bonus songs are wonderful as well.

Ah shit yeah, When the Sun Hits is lovely too. Plenty of great material for a full length in that lot. Pyg is basically flawless.

Sing, Melon Yellow, Altogether and Here She Comes are the 'inessential' Souvlaki songs

Seefeel pretty much picked up where Pygmalion left off and for that I am grateful. So many solid shoegaze inflected projects that need more exposure. This album could have been so much worse than people claim. It's like alt rock, basically. Not more, not less. Some good ass alt rock. They always have a steady songwriting ability that shows throughout their whole discog.

I really need to get on Seefeel. First I have to hear all Sweet Trip's stuff, then I'll check them out.

"Rutti and Blue Skied An' Clear are beautiful, but I don't really care for the other songs on Pygmalion. Especially the middle section (from Trellisaze to Visions of LA) is relatively weak"
...Trellisaze is fantastic, J's Heaven is low-key an album highlight and Visions of LA is a gorgeous interlude wut
also hot take, Altogether is top 3 on Souvlaki

I like the observation that Seefeel picked up where Pygmalion left off, even though most of their stuff was released before Pygmalion.
imo Seefeel also equally picked up from where Aphex Twin left off after the two Selected Ambient Works (SAW) albums.
All the stuff he made after the two SAW albums are solid, but those are clearly his two best for me and never really made anything that sounds like them afterwards.

I’m pretty sure I read that Neil Halstead was living with members of Seefeel when he was writing Pygmalion. Unless I dreamt it? Seefeel are amazing for sure.

This album was such a surprise. I was obsessed with them as a teenager and was gutted when they got slated by melody maker or whichever publication it was that killed off shoegaze. So when there was word of a reunion I dreaded it because like so many ill fated reunions they just kill the legacy. But this album is something special, and the tour was probably the best gig of my life.

Found the article - I’ve put the link in the Pygmalion thread. It’s a great read and you really get a sense of what was going on for the band around the time of 5EP and Pygmalion. Looks like Neil was just mad for Autechre and Aphex Twin. It was clear to see when they gave In Mind to be remixed by reload and bandulu.
