Coming from someone who didn't really see the appeal at first after jamming some of their songs, first glance these guys don't seem so special because their approach is unusual. A lot of the time they do seem like chuggers without much variety or interest, but once you get hooked on their groove you start to understand that they are an almost exclusively rhythmic band and it grabs you. I honestly didn't understand why these guys got so much praise when an ephemeral glance makes them seem like a lot of the chugga-chuggy bands that get trashed, but they are much more than that. This album opened me up to them, still not entirely sold on some of their older stuff revisiting it but the gateway is open.
