I like that in an interview Mikael Akerfeldt said of this album that he loves the production, while earlier on he didn't.

Based of him to prefer this over SOTS, didn't expect that. And I get his point, production can grow on you.

Musically my favorite AtG album is With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness, but the production keeps me from listening to it very often. My favorite overall is To Drink from the Night Itself.

I know a lot of people love this, but I can't enjoy anything about it between the production and the pitchy throat-shredding vocals. It's all just too grating for me.

I'm sure. I can't help it. If I'm not actively listening to it, I can probably convince myself to go with a 1.5 or 2.0 -- I like the weird inclusion of violin.

wtf production here is actually really nice imo. Sounds like Morningrise but with the bass tuned down quite a bit

Early Opeth up until Blackwater Park (with gradually fading influence) were influenced by this album, so you would be correct. Mikael even mentions it in a recent interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JPE0eTM1vY (he starts talking about it at 33:09).

Well, they must've asked Dan to copy this production then. Because it is very similar. But I am not sure if I am listening to a remaster or not, stuff like that is not always clear on streaming services sadly...

I don't have hopes that he can do much with them, but hopefully With Fear I Kiss is good enough for me to finally enjoy all the potential. They come out May 22nd.

Hoping that it will be similar result to when Skydancer got remastered, that was the best re-master job I've ever heard. Can't remember who did it tho

That was definitely an excellent remaster. The Pestilence remasters were good, too.
