Kendrick and Kanye to mainstream? Not underground enough? I loved the underground scene from the 2000s. But Kanye and Kendrick have done great things with GKMC or MBDTF or Late Registration

"word up dude. death grips i hated for a long time but regardless of anyones feelings about their music what they've been doing is pushing the envelope far more then most people have the balls to"
Yeah I respect them for pushing the boundaries of what hip hop is, just that kind of music is not for me.

@rtivik nothing to do with mainstream. imo kanye has done literally nothing important at all, in fact all he's done is poison the hip-hop industry. kendrick on the other hand is great but he gets credit for being a lot more innovative than he is simply because he is pretty much mainstream now and in general the mainstream audience has no idea where hip-hop has been

I many disagree on your opinion of kanye being shit, but I feel that Ye and K-Dot are the most innovative in mainstream. Not overall.

The mainstream won't be as innovative as the underground, you can't expect that. But to say MBDTF wasn't something different or innovative for the mainstream is kinda absurd. GKMC wasn't something original or new, concept albums from 'the hood' have been done before, but Kendricks execution, lyricism, production was just phenonmanel. And this album To Pimp A Butterfly was very unique for the current mainstream climate.

kanye is anti-innovative. he is reverse innovative. he is denovative. he is hip-hop cancer.
and id agree that kendrick was the most innovative in the mainstream but frankly i dont think its him being innovative that makes him successful (again he has never done anything that new). what makes him kind of a genius is his ability to look at trends and see what works in music around him and adapt it into his work. for instance he saw how flylo and thundercat worked with hip-hop so he did that. he saw how trap was trending so he got some trap beats. he knows everyone likes radiohead so he sampled them. he saw the success of 90's jazz rap so he emulated it. he saw that the most important hip-hop albums of all time were conceptual and politicaly socially aware so he added this theme to all of his music and put all of these things together in a modern sounding package. in that, he is a genius. but he is no way a massive innovator, just a very very impressively aware fellow.

"2010-2015 goes to alt hip-hop artists like death grips, shabazz palaces, clipping and lil ugly mane then because that movement is far more innovative then kendrick and kanye stuff."
Hey, I like three of those, maybe my hip hop knowledge is more Potsy approved than I thought.
