Yea he has one of the most recognizable voices nowadays I'd say. His voice has that distinct sound to it.

chino is incredible. one of those guys you can pick out literally half a second after hearing his voice, helps that he's a tremendous songwriter. if he's not seen in however many years as one of the great vocalists of his time it'll be a travesty

His phrasing, tone, rhythm, choice of notes, always on point.

I've been comparing him to singers that are usually defined as 'classics', and I'd say he can make a strong case against any of them.
Like, take Chino Moreno against Bjork for example. Bjork is also one of those singers where you can just tell that she goes over all of her vocal melodies and everything about her performance very meticulously. But Chino, to me, just feels completely effortless, whereas Bjork tries a bit too hard. Take the 'forget my name' part on 'Bachelorette'- it just doesn't really seem to fit particularly well into the song. Chino always sells everything he sings.
/mini rant haha

Definitely he always sounds passionate and truly means what he sings. It's also particularly disturbing to me in Digital Bath. It's like Chino have you gone insane? Lol

personally this album has worn off on me, but it's definitely not Chino's vocals. They're probably at his best here even - but the big thing is I find the guitars utterly boring. that's enough for me to never jam this again

guitars in deftones music are usually the "straight man"
not sure how else they would be in their music, and for that matter i think steph definitely plays around enough with chords, tones, tunings, etc for things to not get stale

The guitars always complement Chino's vocals, whether they are ethereal or harsh his vocals are really just another instrument.

Definitely. Elite and Minerva showcase each side perfectly.
He has a pretty cool pedalboard. Pretty much all MXR, except the polytune. Wish he used his flanger a little more though

There are plenty of more distinctive vocalists than chino. doesn't make chino any worse though.
