is ctts circle takes the square? and if so why are these two albums being compared?

Album Rating: 4.5
because "profound" lyrics, Sufjan's being on the positive spectrum of them and CTTS being on the "liberal arts student English class" spectrum.

examples of profound age of adz lyrics please
i love sufjan's delivery and how emotive his vocals can be, but his lyrics aren't a big deal most of the time

seriously as much as I love sufjan I don't think he's written more than five lines of worthwhile lyrics, judging by how much he makes me think (he doesn't).

depends on what you consider profundity? what are you judging this against? since you asked, here's a few I remembered:
Or do yourself a favor, or do yourself a death from ordinary causes
Illness likes to prey upon the lonely
And you said something like, "All you want is all the world for yourself"
But all I want is the perfect love
Though I know it's small, I want love for us all
But you are the life I needed all along. I think of you as my brother, although that sounds dumb, and words are futile devices
I mean these aren't the words of a poet laureate or anything but these are pretty swell lyrics in my book.

Guys I mean words are futile devices anyways so of course his lyrics aren't going to be good.

but seriously

the thing about sufjan's lyrics isn't so much that they're clunky/bad but that he never really describes anything in grounded terms. while that might not have worked as well on records where he was talking about family break-ups and shit on the state albums it works pretty gorgeously on this record & seven swans. because they're not really about any one thing. idk.
sufjan's lyrics are facebook quotable so they're good.

'sufjan's lyrics are facebook quotable so they're good.'
that is the worst argument ever
|

lol

but seriously i've always found his lyrics to be pretty superb, with odd moments of clunky-ness. the lyrics for the new planeterium stuff are hilarious though.
