no but hipsters are a social sub-class, whereas "scene" is used as a musical sub-class...
its sorta different... basically indie =/= "hipster"
|

yea idk tbh I only see like one person regularly I'd consider a hipster.
i'm like opposite of hipster irl as are my friends
if i looked like the music i listen to id get made fun of a lot lol

Eh, scene is considered a genre and a social subclass. Hipsters are a subclass who listen to indie

no no i know they're both used that way, but "scene" originated from the music, whereas hipsterdom existed independently.

one of my friends kept telling me at this party "you're an indie kid" and I was like idk about that. and he was like yeah dude you're an indie kid. and he said i only listen to indie music. what he meant by indie was "not on the radio" and what he mean by only was "i dont know what the fuck im talking about." i couldnt decide if i was more mad about how he was acting like everyone should only listen to dave matthews like he does or how wrong he was.

Yeah I gotcha. I don't think scene is actually a genre though; what would be considered scene music? Powerpop, new post hardcore and breakdown-saturated metalcore?

technically the term indie was for independent music, so it wouldnt be on the radio, but the type he meant is the 'indie genre' now, which hardly describes it anymore tbh. so he a flat out failure. worry not.
|
| |
it's probably not a genre but it kind of is a description of music. post-hardcore that follows the thursday formula preferably with high-pitched vocals would be one. but there's not genre that fits entirely into the category or scene, just some genres that are more commonly placed in that category. im sure you know this though.

na scene isn't a genre in itself, but you say the word in that context and young people immediately know what kinds of music youre talking about...

same way if you said hipster music most people will know the type. i think we all know what the others are saying at this point.

yeah i wasn't sure how he was using indie, but either way he was wrong overall. he was being such a cocky douchebag about it though. should have started calling him a radio kid fucking hindsight.
