DT is always melodramatic tbh.

Yeah but once upon a time, they were actually good with it rather than making me laugh and cringe

Yeah, The Count of Tuscany is awesome, but the lyrics and the story the song tells are terribly
ridiculous. It's supposed to be a true story lived by Petrucci, but it could have been told through a
3-minute song easily. This whole album is basically personal experiences of the band (except A Rite of
Passage), and the lyrics are 50% filler imo

I don't like how LaBrie drags out the last COUNT OF TUSCANYYYY YEEEAAAHHH an how that 'epic' solo follows, when in the story, they just kinda walk out free and the count is like "dude, i wasn't gonna eat you, you dumb fuck"

Yeah I really just hate LaBrie's vocals. But agreed DT had their better moments.

Or when they travel through "A picturesque estate on sprawling emerald fields, an ancient world, of times gone by" and everything's okay, and then a minute after he's suddenly frigthened for his life. Then everything goes overly dramatic and finally it turns out the story fear for his life was just a pretext to fit the 19 minutes of the song

Lyrics are just awful. At least Octavarium had some kind of epic lyrics

Better than everything after Octavarium

Illumination Theory by far has their worst epic lyrics though. I usually laugh when LaBrie shouts: Mothers for their children / husbands for their rives. Actually it's their worst epic in every aspect

Agreed. Everything from the s/t sucks apart fromm The Enemy Inside

Album Rating: 3.5
illumination theory rocks the enemy inside is ok just generic as fuck

Actually imo everything sucks on the s/t except Surrender to Reason, which as a somewhat pretty cool instrumental part. The Enemy Inside is good too, but I find it really uninspired and unoriginal. But I guess the whole album is, anyways, and The Enemy Inside is still one of the better cuts

Last good DT album imo

"Last good DT album imo"
Considering ADTOE is a top 5 album to me, I really would say otherwise. Plus, s/t is still "good", I
mean it's not like it was a 1.5 or a 2. It's just an uninteresting and boring attempt at a more
"focused" style of songwriting
