so
guess who just walked through a snowy graveyard in the woods at midnight listening to MONO?
this guy
it was the kind of eerily calm experience you can only get through graveyards, snowy nights in the woods, and MONO. All at once, it was almost overwhelming
so much so that I swear to God as I was leaving I felt something gripping my neck and squeezing and that sensation just so happened to stop the second I stepped foot off the property. Psychological or 2spooky, I dunno, but yeah
tonight's been unreal

Thanks ash, I will never listen to Mono again.

Pure As Snow is clearly the huge standout here. It's so powerfully moving.

Excellent choice, but Burial at Sea is objectively the best (:

most post-rock bands would kill to release an album as good as this yet it isn't even MONO's best

Just added Taka's new solo project to the sputnik database. Anyone listened to his new album yet? I'm really enjoying it. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/bands/Behind-the-Shadow-Drops/94619/

Haven't heard it yet. But I wonder how is it different from Mono. Taka can only do one thing,

Taka put out a solo album two years ago under his own name and it was like, the 3-est 3/5 to ever 3/5, so I can't say I'm expecting anything great out of this new one, but I'll check it soon

i like his new album loads more than his previous solo album. he seemed to search out melodic dissonance a little too much on his last solo album and im not sure it worked. his new album is much more simple melodically, and that works in his favour. its more of a showcase of atmosphere and sonic craftsmanship than it is complex composition. he just doesnt seem to have the romantic melodies in him that he used to (yearning, are you there, ashes in the snow, pure as snow, halcyon) so it works to his favour that he has shifted his focus more towards ambience and soundscapes. the synth and percussion on behind the shadow drops are excellent.

This is wonderful, 'The Battle to Heaven' especially is post-rock perfection.
