As much as I love Neurosis, how the fuck is this "folk metal"? Where did that come from anyway?

the presence of strings and celtic tuned acoustic guitars probably
|
| |
All albums prior starting Souls At Zero have strings and acoustic guitars, only I agree they are more present here. I think this and EOTS are by far the most underrated Neurosis albums.
|
| |
the folk elements are much more present here though, songs like The Tide and Falling Unknown are like this
|
| |
Yeah I guess, the biggest difference for me (at least what I immediately noticed the first few times) was the use of clean vocals, and the southern vibe to it. I still wouldn't call this folk metal and less symphonic metal, my god.

Yeah, it's just Neurosis tbh
|
| |
Right, Neurot-metal that is.

It's better than TOG, I think they where going through the motions on that one. I would rank it 3rd right below EOTS.
|
| |
my ranking would be this:
teoes
tsib
tog
saz
astns
eots
gttr
hfid
pom
twal

awesome album but i dont see this being better than times of grace
|

None of their albums clicked on me instantly of course, but this took the longest time to grow on me.
Now don't get me wrong, The Doorway is one of the best songs ever written but the title track and some
parts throughout the album just don't do much for me.
I still rated it 4 mind you (probably the lowest rating for a Neurosis record).
