I think 10k days is quiiite underrated, mainly a fault from some of the song sequencing

Any answer other than Lateralus being their best is objectively false.
The notion of 10k days being better than Lateralus when it already contained traces of treading the same ground Lateralus did, but in a more uninspired way, in the first place is ludicrous.
Lateralus as a whole is the most cohesive, sonically impressive and awe-inspiring achievement that Tool has ever done.

Aenima is a close second however.

it's cohesive but in a way that makes me say ok yes this exists well done
is this what the people call awe?

"it's cohesive but in a way that makes me say ok yes this exists well done"
We might have different definitions of cohesive
|
| |
I doubt it; different degrees of appreciation for smelly prog grunge maybe, but cohesion is one of the few bones I won't pick with Tool

I too used to be in the boat where I liked 10k over Lateralus, but after relistening to the discog in full again in preparation for this record, I began to realize how fantastic and well-constructed Lateralus is and how bloated 10k can be at times.
But uhh... Aenima>Lateralus>10k=Undertow>Opiate>>>>FI

I won't really argue with that, but angry Tool is a little more interesting to me. =P

For me aenima, lateralus, 10k days and FI are 5s. It's hard to choose between them, very hard. I understand that lateralus is a great musical exercise but it doesn't reach me as emotionally as the other albums.
Aenima has Jimmy or Third aye, 10k days has wings for mary, even FI has Invencible or Descending. I love Lateralus, just don't touch me as deep as the others do.

FI has Pneuma and t/t, which already puts it below anything else they've done.

Pneuma is the pinacle of tool genre, agreed.
