I reckon it's that initially, it felt like they came back HARD after the career nadir that was 'Gore', but as time went on it became clearer that the majority of songs simply *weren't as good* as their best stuff from prior albums.
Still, what it does well, it does very well.

Yeah that's how I feel about it. Lands somewhere in the middle of their discog, but still holds up as a really solid album unlike Gore

Error and Headless are my top ones off this. And yeah, not really sure why it seems to have fallen off for some. I'll grant it's not their best, but it's still really good. The odd takes I see here and that Gore of all albums is better than this, feels like people just being contrarian for the sake of it
