No idea how I would rate this atm though. Too little time for the music I truly care for anyway

This is one of the hardest 5's. New Bermuda is actually even harder of a 5 tbh

nah new bermuda is much much worse than this
'we trying to show we can do hevy mehtulz' was a dumb decision by the band

New Bermuda has been on repeat for me. The post-rock inspired builds, the post-punk drumming on the closer, "Come Back" hits me hard with those leads omfg so does Baby Blue. Only song slightly below a 5 off it for me is Luna and its still great

Certainly without an album like this i may have never gotten into BM. Really love me some melodic and atmpspheric (the non depressing kind of it) these days

Damn this record straight up has twice as many tracks as a “normal” deafheaven record lol
Idk how I feel about that.

nine main tracks and three interludes yeah, we'll see how that flows. I'm hoping there'll be some intro/outro dichotomies between some of them; a post-rock track designed to flow into one of the mostly metal ones so they'll still feel like longer songs. Hoping!

Interesting strategy, it'll finally give this band proper representation in my scrobbles at least lol

maybe wouldn't be the first time. I remember that well before sunbather was announced they posted on facebook about writing a 17-minute song--which had me really excited--but it never showed up on the album. In retrospect I kind of assume now that the post-rocky second half of Please Remember might be the extra three minutes that got cut off Vertigo that they were originally talking about. Either that or the droning on Windows, maybe. Irresistible is obviously an outro, too.

also if you look at the tracklist the first two proper tracks are Doberman and Magnolia, and that first "section" is bookended by the longest track. kinda reads to me like tracks 1-6 are a more traditional deafheaven suite, with Incidentals II-III both containing two following tracks each that might be of different styles or generally different orientations. That'd be neat.

also also if you like blackgaze reminder Deadyellow put out a stellar album last year that was very sunbather reminiscent
