Very good breather, emotionally I mean, after the t/t

It’s certainly not one of their best songs but I do feel like it fits perfectly in the context of Diamond Eyes as a project

Bass in Ceremony is so hummable. Hope the new bassist has (or will be allowed to have) personality

Chino read your hope and played Kendrick Lamar N95.

I wish they returned to six strings on ine of their future albums. Urantia has the sickest riff and it can be played in C# tuning

Yeah, I'm really sick of the 8-string Steph nonsense. It was cool for a while but it's kind of played out. I wouldn't mind a couple heavy low-tuned songs on the new album but I hope Chino takes point on guitar.

the chugga-chugga bs was at its worst on diamond eyes, agreed
although that was 7 strings iirc

He used an 8 on DD. S/T he used a 7. On this one he uses a 9! (although only on one song thankfully)

iirc from years ago the tunings are something like:
adrenaline: standard e
atf: drop c#
wp: drop c
s/t: 7 string standard g#
snw: 7 string drop f
de: 8 string standard
kny: 8 string drop e
idk the rest never tried learning anything from the newer ones

so the moral of the story is
don't let deftones go beyond 7 strings

@Pika yes
@Alex you are technically correct, but each album has songs with variations on those general tunings. For example DE is 8 standard but the low string is low-tuned

Diamond Eyes was when the chugg-fest was at it's peak, i don't remember it being even just "chugs" really, the riffs were low but extremely creative and catchy, it wasn't the typical Djent riffs. However with this album i see more potential in songs Ohms and Untaria which are pretty much six string songs. Also, some Deftones songs have got like a Sludgy/Doomy Rock sounds, like on You've Seen the Butcher, Hole in the Earth ending riff, Pittura Infamante and this title track. I would to hear them expand that sound

T/T on this might actually have my favourite Deftones riff of all time. Idk, I'd have to think about it.
|
| |
Yeah, those simple riffs like Ohms, Engine No. 9, Hole in the Earth are peak

^^^their lolla set from a couple weeks ago... where is stephen at lmao? i know he previously wasn't touring for this album cause anti-vax stance but its 2024 now what gives?
they just look like chino and friends now... looks especially egregious when the guy who is filling in for stephen kinda looks like stephen and is using stephen's gear lmao. and why do they have a full dedicated 2nd guitarist when the large majority of their songs are just one guitar?

stephen is essentially a session guy at this point, doesn't want to tour and is keeping his distance from the rest of the band. part of me feels like he was pissed at the way chino fired sergio like he was a temp rather than a key band member
i wouldn't be surprised if they call it quits after the next album...but they've also never been more popular than they are right now, so the money may be enough to keep everyone in line

yeah seems like their subreddit is in crisis about it
was initially announced years ago he would no longer play international shows due to his new fear of flying, but now that they're playing u.s. shows again and he's still not playing they seem to (mostly) think he either has some sort of health issue or is maybe outright done with the band
|

Deftones are one of my favorite bands. It's disappointing to see what's happening with Stef. I wish he would cut it out with the flat-earth shit. Maybe figure out the source of his anxiety and work through that, which could be what he's doing.
I don't think the band will be over as it sounds like they are having fun working on the current album. So, clearly they are all getting along.
They're allowing Stef to take a break and focus on himself and his issues, which is totally cool.

I remember seeing Deftones and the moment Carpenter walked out with his Louis Vuitton-skinned guitar I knew that dude was a total chode. He isn't working on himself. From every interview I've read he comes across as holier-than-thou and acts as if music and touring are beneath him. He was more than happy pumping out his Youtube playthroughs during COVID though.
