idk i am first and foremost a fan of any given artist because of their work
some i also find fascinating as people (frusciante, elliott smith, jimmy page etc) but that has no bearing on how much enjoyment i get from their art and i certainly wouldn't ever want to meet them in real life
you gotta put yourself in their shoes sometimes
like
imagine you were a socially awkward introvert who only cares about your own hobbies and art, and you have thousands of strangers hassling you/professing love for you

I never used the words "Spitting in its face", but because he's ignoring his fanbase it's logical that he isn't showing them respect, isn't it? Yeah I know artists should make music for themselves and not let what their fans think have a bearing on it, and that's cool, but I think at the least it's common human decency to show some gratitude and thanks to the people who are providing you with the money you need to stay alive by buying your CDs and going to your concerts, or maybe I'm just naive
