This is my favorite album in this style since Daisy.
Different strokes, ig.

this is a weird one where im pseudo let down because the sky high hype did not prepare me for songs as bad as dead cat and cry baby, but like 80% of it has the magic so i can just make my own playlist, since its reasonably close enough to the album i wanted it to be
but i think the "disappointment" was more so that, where i expected this album to surpass nearer my god, it if anything cemented that nearer my god is their opus for me. thats a really brutally high bar to clear though, and theyve never come remotely close other than this before or after so kudos

To me, NMG had waayyy more questionable tracks that came close to being filler (Heartbeats, Dillards, Crown Candy, even Slapstick). I could always tell that Foxing would make an incredible heavy/experimental record, so the fact that they finally did it just blew me away.

However to be fair, you definitely pinpointed the correct weaker tracks on this one if there are any.

ill give you that crown candy is the sole weak link, which is part of why cry baby is so unpalatable to me since its like they built a ballad off of all the worst parts of that song. i love heartbeats and dillards tho

Heartbeats is great tho, and so is Dillard’s

I love every song on NMG tbh lol
This does have some weaker tracks like the ones you guys have mentioned, tho I don’t come anywhere near hating them. Dead Cat is fine imo, and Cry Baby is so important, for how grim and depressing this record can be to end it on that note is very sweet and I’ve really grown to love it as a closer. It’s weak on its own but I couldn’t imagine this album closing on anything else.
I’m sure I’ve said it before but yeah I kinda sorta agree with onion about halfway, this has lower lows than NMG but the highs are so fucking high that it doesn’t matter.

Trapped in Dillard's is lowkey a top 10 Foxing tune

I might honestly agree with that. It might’ve been the first song of theirs I really latched on to on first listen. Those lyrics hit pretty hard at the time, and still kinda do I guess.

Idt it’s top 10 for me but I love it and never skip it when it comes on
Hall of Frozen Heads is maybe the song that hit me the hardest in 2024

Man it’s cliche but I literally feel that way about like 10 songs here. If I’m being completely honest, when you guys are commenting and pointing out some flaws I do see them and totally understand where yall are coming from but man this shit just hits me too hard for me to even care. I think lyrically this is some of the most relatable stuff I’ve ever heard, I think structurally these guys have just perfected the loud soft dynamic, they really know when to let songs breathe and when to turn it up to 11. And I think that even applies to the sequencing on this record.
The first like 10 times I listened to this I felt like Hall of Frozen Heads was missing a BIG crescendo to end the album on but I actually really like that it doesn’t get aggressive at all and just is a slow burn, more quiet and contemplative track and it’s just fucking gorgeous. That song is probably the biggest grower for me here.

I enjoy this album a fair bit and I think Greyhound and HoFH are all-timers for the band, but there are some noticeably weak tracks and others that are just kind of there.
But yeah Frozen Heads is just incredible. Also that “who’s a good boy?” At the end always gets me.

I'll probably relisten to this, but if I remember correctly this album was like auditory melatonin to me. The first 3 tracks were cool, then it got boring.
