"difference is sleep token is overproduced to shit and back and thoroughly unlikeable whereas this feels real and passionate and raw."
difference is this sounds like it was made in the shed in the back garden and thoroughly unlikable whereas Sleep Token feels real passionate and well realised

The run of songs up to Cosmic is probably the most an album of theirs has interested me in some time, honestly. Falters pretty hard in the second half though. The GOD trilogy is half-baked conceptually, Easier definitely sounds like a haphazard rewrite of some demo material from their very early days and Beautiful Morning is just bad with the obvious plagiarism of Them Bones being rather egregious. The rest of the song doesn't redeem it much from that.
That being said, Nobody and We Love You were pretty good. Kind of wish the entire album was more like those two songs, then I'd have even rated it in the 3-3.5 range.

As someone who's not a fan of this band, Gates' ending solo section on Nobody has more passion than than anything Sleep Token has done lmao. Braindead take

I have to give some credit to Synyster, dude really knows how to write a solo. Crazy how it can't save this record even a little bit.

This is the kind of album I wished Coheed would make. I appreciate Avenged for going there, but need to compromise for some seriously grating moments which sucks. I think if this had the tightness of Nightmare with the same amount of experimentation, it would be much more enjoyable.

Sleep token. Is the only band I've seen that has a pop and djent tag in their top 3 genre descriptions

100% this is very disjointed and not artistically sound but I'd rather the band try to make something like this than HTtK. You build up enough goodwill and prestige so you can make these types of records and it clearly has paid off for fans but to outsiders like me? eh, hopefully their next one is a bit more realized. At least the effort to try something more meaningful is there

I've noticed a lot of discourse from fans actually, not many actually like it. Think they just want another pop metal album sadly... I'm glad they're trying something different.

I'm just going off what I've seen on a few pages here tbh. I'm not really in the fan community so to speak.

The first half of the album is actually pretty decent. Cosmic is definitely the showstopper for me. But, We Love You and Nobody work a lot better in the context of the album than they did as strictly singles.
If this had been an EP with the first 5 songs, it would have been an easy 4.0-4.5 for me, honestly. But this thing drops off hard once Beautiful Morning hits. I'll try the back-half again before settling on a score.

Id take Sleep Token over this for sure, the vocals completely obliterate all potential this had, comically horrible stuff.
