if you've been listening to music for idk 30 years or so im sure you could actually listen to that many albums, but theres no way you remember them or spent enough time to actually know what you thought about it.

im at 1523 on RYM and that encompasses every album ive ever heard and have a genuine opinion on.
theres definitely room for that to be like 2 or 3k but i have a rule that i dont rate anything i dont actually have feelings on.

Yeah I actually agree with this. I do listen to a lot of music, I’m 36 (so not as young as some here) and I’ve just passed 2.8k… even then there’s a bunch of older ratings I haven’t returned to / aren’t 100% about. I definitely make more of an effort now to revisit historic things I’ve heard in the past, rather than move on to new stuff so quickly.
I do also accept some people may have more ‘quality listening’ time than myself. Scepticism does start to manifest at certain points though, lol… especially if you read between the lines. I’ve seen evidence of ‘rating total boosting’ here first-hand tbh

My kid asked me how many albums I think I've heard because of spotify wrapped and he was surprised at how many it was when I showed him my profile. I had to explain that most of it is stuff I just heard once and wanted to catalog it. It's wild to get on last.fm and see it tell me I've even just scrobbled 3,500 artists.

I've been just over 2.8k for like 3 years. Been slacking on new shit but even when I was going nuts jamming lots of shit I hadn't heard before, I was only gaining like 300-400 album rates a year
My ability to spend quality time listening to music went down as well tho. Had a sweet office job for 8 years, literally just stared at a computer and jammed for 8-10 hours a day, it ruled. Then I got laid off and had to accept I was never gonna find another job like that again. So even when I go nuts jammin in my free time it's still only like 3-5 hrs a day
