fair enough no i was talking about cults in general there, people prop things (people, politicians, places, ideas, religions, art, etc) up in their mind for whatever reason and will begin to perceive their output irrationally in order to defend what they have consciously or otherwise chosen as an ideal in the face of criticism

I think sometimes a rating bump/decrease is from having more time to digest the album too. That's why I don't rate an album until it's been out for atleast a month. Too many times have I loved/hated an album at first, just to see it differently only a month later. Can be from picking up on stuff I hadn't noticed before, the album finally "clicking", that kinda thing.

no worries my bad too and for what it's worth i'm only human and i'm guilty of doing that sort of thing at times too
i'm usually good when it comes to music at trying to come into even my favorite artists with cautious optimism but it happens, i remember at first i wanted tlop to be better than it was for example

Nothing wrong with changing ratings when you listen to it later. I like rating albums after one listen for my initial thoughts and then to see how it changes.

That was my experience with Gore, I was so pumped to listen to it, and throughout it I felt like I was trying to convince myself it was good. Held on to that fantasy for some time until I realized one of my fav bands released a dud. It's a huge disappointment when that happens, it can be hard to admit it to yourself sometimes.
^that's true, nothing wrong with that. For me though I'm just afraid I'd forget to update the rating later on
