Cannot for the life of me understand how this is rated higher than City of Evil. I just cannot get in to this album no matter how hard I try.

It's not bad, it's even good actually, but then... whatever. World would be the same without this album. Dig their new drummer though.

This is my favorite A7X, just barely edging out City of Evil :]

I feel their sense of structure and dynamics is at its peak here so far, listening to any of these songs makes most of their past stuff feel "slow" in comparison and I don't mean just speed (CoE was obviously pretty speedy). Even the ballads, that solo in the last minute of Roman Sky gives a "mature rush" that wasn't there before. Wackerman definitely deserves a huge shoutout for this, he casually strolled in and dropped a discography highlight of a performance lol (I mean the album in general). If they can manage to find Shadows a comfortable range to sing in they could drop an absolute slapper
WtF still my overall fav tho

this would prob have a 4 average if it had 2007 shadows... still a great album but the vocals hold it back

When the keyboard pops up somewhere in the 11th minute of Exist the song pretty much becomes metal Camel lol, I love it.
I've warmed up to this a lot recently, it's been kind of a U curve since its release for me. Roman Sky was always one of my least favs here but now I really dig it, obviously the gorgeous last minute but also the clean little jazzy solo in the middle that is then joined by the strings. The historical lyrics are also interesting enough for a big ballad. And then it rather seamlessly gives way to Fermi Paradox which has to be one of my very favs songs of theirs.
I'm a bit conflicted on Higher, because Shadows' vocals are quite hard to swallow there but Wackerman's drumming alone is worth the admission and the quieter coda has to be peak A7X too.
dam guess I really felt like typing about this band today haha

Album has mixing issues (drums too far forward, guitars lack punch) but I still enjoy

God Damn honestly might be my favorite. It’s thrashy as fuck and I love the acoustic guitars near the end.

Weren't they waiting for pandemic restriction to loosen so they could record with a full orchestra or something? I imagine they'd have done it already by now?
