Even though I prefer TDAG, and I think SF is virtually tied with this, they're all so damn amazing that I'm not going to exert the energy to delve into why I disagree

It's getting to the point that I'm afraid I'll never be able to choose between Daisy and SF. It doesn't help that you basically have to compare apples to oranges.

Right. It's been since 2017 and I still can't choose. Some days I like the quiet night time feel of SF and other times I need the weird mysteriousness of Daisy. Comes down to my mood and I think I'm content to leave it at that.

With TDAG, Daisy, and SF any one could be my favorite on a given day. I’ve been jamming SF the most recently though. I guess having three perfect masterpiece albums is a good problem to have

it's funny that outside of select circles like this site, most people still consider Deja to be their masterpiece

That is so weird to me. I mean Deja is a great record, but I almost never listen to it because the 3 after it are so much more experimental and mature for them.

right, agreed...it was a classic when I was 17 but I grew up. it sometimes feels like everyone is still somehow living in a drama filled youth where they can relate to it better than TDAG, Daisy, or SciFi and I just can't.

Deja would’ve been my favorite album ever if I heard it in high school.
I genuinely don’t understand how some fans like it more than the following three records.

Yeah I mean Deja is a great emo/pop punk album and I get that it’s relatable if your in high school or something, but it doesn’t match the existential/mental issues in TDAG, the unhinged vitriol of Daisy, or the dark, resigned dejection of SF. Plainly those albums just have more meat and are much more relatable to me as an adult.

Totally agree with everything you just said.

I first heard Deja in high school and thought it was pretty great but boring compared to TDAG

"it sometimes feels like everyone is still somehow living in a drama filled youth where they can relate to it better than TDAG, Daisy, or SciFi and I just can't."
This exactly. Pretty much the only time I see BN pop up in real life is when people play "throwback 2000s emo" playlist with bands like MCR, FOB, etc. And it's only angsty songs from Deja. It's like these people never heard that the band continued to make music after Deja. So infuriating.

my first brand new was Quiet Things (thanks NHL 04 or whichever it was) in middle school, but my first full Brand New LP was TDAG in college and I was quite an angsty lad then.
I still find Deja an awkward transition between the vanilla pop punk of the debut and the masterpiece of TDAG. Glimmers of potential but the pieces only come together perfectly a few times (Quiet Things and Jaws Theme Swimming, mostly)

I dunno, I think Deja isn’t quite as good as the others, but isn’t too far off and is a great album (and I’m 37 FTR).

I like Deja but the kind of people that plaster their blogs with the astronaut artwork with clearly misunderstood quotes like 'Need you like water in my lungs' give me cancer.
They only now Deja and MAYBE Jesus Christ and that's a huge if.

When Lacey says "I'm a word that no one ever wants to say" is he saying he's the n-word?
