Oh man. The Grey was good, but Only Us is another level.

Yep, a lower level. Not digging it, but might make more sense in the context of the album as a whole. Might be a grower though.

Probably a grower, and definitely a killer live song. I'd argue, along with others I'm sure, that the worst thing Thrice can do is start sticking to a formula and become stale. Only Us sounds like nothing else they've done (maybe Digital Sea) and that's great news.

I appreciate the sound shifting a bit but that chorus does nothing for me

edit: ok second listen is a bit better but this doesn't really feel like a huge move forward for Thrice, it's not really that different from anything they've done since Beggars. The synths are kinda tacked on.

i really feel this one. i hated his social/morality talk until only us. it works very well here, it's great songwriting. it hit me emotionally. can't say the same about the grey, that one still feels cheesy af.

New one is a trillion times better than this thank god

Only complaint I have is that the album as a whole has no real flow at all imo

I do feel like the production on this is better imo, though the last two songs are fantastic

this was a wee bit of a letdown so the lowered expectations will probably work in Palms' favour

I'll give ya that Toon, the production here is better overall, although the bass on the new one is just...hot damn

can't believe how much this is panned considering it was #2 in the staff year-end list

anyway haven't heard the full leak but I will say confidently that The Dark is by far the best of the singles they've put out

Only heard a sample of Just Breathe but that 7/4 to 5/4 back and forth in the chorus grooves so nicely.

Hoping the new one grows on me but right now I'm thinking it's their weakest since the debut.

I actually don't despise Hold Up a Light

the problem with it is that 'A Branch in the River' and 'Blood on Blood' are both fucking amazing and having the radio-friendly banger randomly slapped between the two really fucks with the flow of the album

A Branch in the River and Blood on Blood are the two best on Palms but are nothing amazing, neither would be in my top 40, maybe even 50 favorite Thrice songs.

Hold Up A Light isn't awful but it might be the worst song the band has released, though I can't remember the debut so maybe there's something worse on there.

I'll probably take it over Stay with Me, but not by much (before it's brought up, I actually have a bit of a soft spot for Wake Up. I just fucking love that bridge, and the chorus is catchy)
