probably #1 elk-influenced nature metal of all times
|
| |
is elk metal the metal version of ghost folk?
also wow this opener resonates much more than I expected (the trio was never a key part of this for me but maybe this was dumb idk it has been too long)

of course The Mantle is their ghost folk album
|

never exactly wrote Agalloch off outside of chunks of the Mantles + Serpent, just hadn't had occasion to reconnect with this one. the clunky bits are as endearing as I remembered, but I wasn't ready for how hard the atmosphere carries across the whole thing - always had this down as one that took its time to warm up
could still live without Dead Winter Days (kinda plays as a parody of what everything else pulls off so successfully), but otherwise this is maybe their most consistent record? discuss

LMAO Dead Winter Days is literally a top 5 Agalloch song so the discussion is already over.

Think I might make this my next "must check" album (as I start to plow through my rec list). Doing a whole lot of nothin' tomorrow aside from baking, so it's as good a time as any, right?

Immediate first thoughts, the guitar in the background is way more melodic than most BM I’ve heard, makes for a super interesting contrast with the classic BM vocals
