Yeah I like the closer. The songs I really don't like are Vales and Plateau

Vales is easily my least fave but decent still. Plateau is awesome though

It's definitely decent, and even excellent at times.

I still can't get into the opener though...

I've always really liked Pillars, such an epic and adventurous choice for an opener.

I've been listening to this more, and it's definitely growing on me. The whole lyrical concept is cool, and the music itself can definitely be immersive at times. But Goddamn does this draaaaaaaaaaaag

It's just the last 3rd of the album that drags, really.

Vales Beyond Dimension and Dark Matter Gods are definitely the two hardest tracks to get through.

Also, the whole album seems directionless. I mean, individual songs generally have pretty decent buildups and are fun to listen to, but you could rearrange the songs into any random order and it wouldn't change a thing.

If you hear them talk about it, this album is their best sounding, composed and written album of their careers, and The Mantle is their most directionless.

Also disagree about this being direction less. Pillars wouldn't have worked anywhere but at the beginning, plateau is so massive it sounds like a climax to the album and had to be at the end, astral and dark matter essentially sound like one long song tied together.

So this is my first Agalloch album (I know, I went out of order). And... I like it. I've listened to it twice through now, but I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

The White is cool, but I'm nowhere near as high on it as most people seem to be.
