she's definitely talented though, i can see why the media (that specializes in relatively vapid pop media) would drool over this/her.

I agree, just saying that I find the over-saturation of her Lorde a tad trite

From what I understand, the only thing she contributes to her music is the lyrics? Not that that is an easy feat, as they are quite clever, but it certainly seems like she has this image that has been in large part fabricated by her production company and publicists, especially considering how young she was when she was signed to their label.

I'm pretty sure she (co-)composes all her tracks as well.

maybe, i don't really pay attention to pop media so i can't really comment more. all i know of her is her music and just random feminist/racial critiques and the like. for a 17 y/o pop star she seems pretty well-spoken and i can appreciate that receiving positive attention (even if it's just a manufactured image) over shit like miley

Good point tox, she does look like bjork when compared the pure unadulterated shite that pollutes our airwaves.

May look like her, but time will tell if she can capitalize on this record like Bjork pretty much did with every subsequent record... She's off to a good start IMO

I do think she has potential but I believe she's getting too much handed over to her far too quickly

She's meeting mega popular stars now (Saw a picture of her with Jay-Z) and she's one of the main events in Coachella this year, and she only just came out of nowhere in less than a year ago, among other things

So much gold handed in a silver plate may very well get to her head and desensitize her and just begin to forget about making good music. I mean she's very young, unless they happen to have an undying passion for their music I can't imagine many people from her age not loosing their heads over the fame

what exactly has been "handed to her"? i think you're giving the media way too much credit here. she's meeting mega popular stars because she is a mega popular star, who doesn't know who lorde is? at this point jay z probably has more to gain by being buddy buddy with up and comers like lorde anyways

you're right her success might get to her head but that risk was inevitable after royals hits #1 in the US for like ten straight weeks, the media has nothing to do from it

I suppose I should've worded it better: My worry about the "handing everything out" thing is because many companies, as well as the media, are attempting to milk her success

But how can we know if she only really had one good album/one album good enough to receive popularity and she won't end up releasing a bunch of boring and forgettable releases that don't come close to replicate her current success? She has potential like I mentioned, but again, what if the success gets to her and she ends up not making another hit?

Admittedly, I am overthinking it, but I do believe it would be better if she started getting this many props once she has proven she can continue making a success out of her career and that she wasn't just a one-album (hit?) wonder who peaked far too early.

gywn that makes no sense. pop stars always rise to super-stardom very quickly. you seriously think meeting Jay-Z or playing Coachella is going to ruin her sense of morality or something? this is what she was aiming for.

ps. fuck everybody this album is perfect

gwyn i see what you're saying, but i don't think there's much precedent for your speculation anyways so for me it's kind of a moot point. we'll just see what happens
