I will never understand why they didn't stick to the sound of this album for longer

Yeah. From here to Sense of Purpose is an odd jump.

Maybe they just hit a slump and didn't decide to go in the direction they've gone on the last two albums. Maybe they just can't write good music.

Well if the interviews with Anders are anything to go by, they apparently don't really 'plan' the direction of their records sound-wise before they write/record them and instead just write and record songs as they go along. Despite this tactic, A Sense of Purpose was still a pretty good release imo. Same goes for Sounds of a Playground Fading.

But that doesn't change that their last two albums are absolutely dreadful.

I don't mind ASOP or SOAPF, but they're so different from this that it's really jarring.

Agreed. It's weird. Mirror's Truth was a badass song but everything else was just really different.

This is IMO Anders' best vocal performance. His harsh vocals sound amazing.

I'd this or Soundtrack To Your Escape. He sounded dope as fuck on that disc.

His work is mostly underappreciated, though his performances on Battles and Siren Charms deserve the complaints.

He sounds a bit whiny a lot of the time, man

His harsh vocals here are amazing though. I can see people disliking the cleans

This is definitely not a 2. Too many jams.

It has a couple of jams, but the bad parts make me want to stab myself in both ears with screwdrivers. I love In Flames when they're good, but when they're bad I can't stand them. I think we talked about this before, I tried listening to this again but I couldn't really get into it outside a couple tracks.

But yeah, his harsh vocals are pretty great but his cleans just bring it down so much for me.
