I haven't had a chance to read the tbt review yet but I'm not sure why you'd expect me to rain on the parade. I like Opeth a lot and I was already pumped for their new album and I doubt reading any review will change that.

yeah i was mostly just messing around jamie but there are a lot of mentions of damnation which you don't like. reviewer doesn't make many comparisons to heritage. he does mention GR which i know you like, so yeah just read it and let us know what you think

Read it and I'm certainly intrigued. I don't mind if some of it sounds like Damnation just as long as it's better.
I'm surprised/disappointed that the reviewer didn't even mention Axenrot's drumming once. I hope the reason for that has more to do with the reviewer not having much interest in drumming compared to other instrumentation than it does with the quality of Axenrot's performance. His drumming is what I'm looking forward to most on the new album.

@jamie the reviewer had a huge focus on the guitar solos and riffs more than anything else, which leads me to believe hes a guitarist.......or maybe the performance is just that good
also he said the damnation-y parts were more grandiose and fleshed out than the stuff on damnation (im not a big fan of damnation)....so im definitely interested

Meh that review didn't really make it sound like something I would enjoy. It's easy to imagine different things when reading his words, it doesn't really tell you much about the sound. It's the same reason the early TBT reviews on Sputnik were useless.
I hope it's awesome but I'm going to wait and hear it before setting any kind of expectations.
