I've had this for years now, and I've also been lucky to see them last February. I would say that I enjoy 'Kezia' much more enjoyable than 'Fortress'. 'Fortress' is better on paper, no doubt. But 'Fortress' lacks the honesty that 'Kezia' has. Ranked on musicianship, of course 'Fortress' would come out on top, I don't think that too many would care to argue that. But this isn't anything new. Look at 'Mirrors' by Misery Signals. It blew 'Of Malice And The Magnum Heart' out of the water musically, but I can't even listen to it. Look at the sincerity on say, 'The Silent Circus' by Between The Buried And Me. Or even their self-titled release. That to me is way better of a listen than an album like 'Colors'. Hopefully some of you are familiar with these releases, I'm sure a lot or you are...
What I'm saying is that 'Kezia' is an album that someone can relate to, even though it's a concept album. 'A Calculated Use Of Sound' and 'Kezia' tackle a lot of the same ideas, but the key difference in the (lyrical) writing is that Protest The Hero has conceptualised what they are saying, and they kept their guts at the same time. 'Fortress' isn't something that I can relate to, and 'Kezia' is, regardless of the better playing, better writing, better singing, etc. on 'Fortress'.This Message Edited On 03.30.09

If Bury the Hatchet had better vocals/production, it would've fitted okay on Fortress.

I'm still a cigarette softly smoking on the edge of a metal ashtray
I begged this place to let me burn, and it whispered, "burn away"

I didn't check the last page to see if I was the latest post. In retrospective, I dumbly double posted. A thousand pardons.

So when you led on the bed as you fed those expectations, as a whore, not a human. You embraced with hesitation the very paramaters of all you can be; not a mother, not an aunt, not a sister that's not subdued. Because dignity is not physical and the flesh means more than you.
YOU FLESH MEANS MORE THAN
*harmonic rake*
YOU

Turn Soonest To The Sea is epic.
This album > Fortress

Both albums are equal IMO, Fortress is more technically proficient, and Kezia is more fun and better songwriting.

Or at least that's what I thought when I first heard it. Should spin it again sometime.

Yeah it's very good, I'm one of the handful of people who still believe Fortress is better, well done for getting it so soon though, did you get Vheissu yet?
