post-punk was defined because it was quite literally the next big trend after punk in the 70s. it doesn't really have a huge focus on a punk sound but a more punk-focused style of post-punk was called no wave

it's a complex thing because post-punk is more defined by a series of scenes and bands who experimented a lot with electronic and art rock and krautrock and punk and dub and shit rather than having an exact sound

nope, never heard Joy Division despite those 4.4's and that one t-shirt that's everywhere. sounds like a pretty deep and interesting well, though.

"t/t gives me the bumps"

one of the greatest songs ever, that outro where it slows down and is just so full of dread, it's perfect

I remember listening to this toward the end of a flight into New York around dusk. the title track came on as we flew past a bunch of billowing smokestacks, and the music got progressively more crushing and hopeless while we descended over a landfill and just all this ugly human destruction. it was shiver-inducing.

that's rad. i put this on the headphones last week walking out of my place and i looked up and there was an huge apartment building on fire a little way up the road. just a ton of billowing smoke going into the sky. burning skies seemed oddly appropriate.

I really love how diverse this one is, so many great highs and lows. My biggest problem with Shrines is that a lot of the songs are structured a bit too similarly but that may be alleviated with more intense listens. Maybe while cooking or tidying up the bathroom
