man i loved this album. it sounded as if they were playing with passion and energy for the first time in years. the drumming was also very good, tre's best. great riffs and lyrics etc, it seemed like everyone in the band all of a sudden got better. the concept was also brilliant and really hit home with me, possibly because when i heard it i was a angry teenager, but even listening to it now, i still think its genius. jesus of suburbia is probably their best song ever, letterbomb, st jimmy, holiday, novacaine and whatsername are also favorites of mine. you know what? the whole damn album is a favorite of mine. flawless the whole way through. in my opinion green days opus, followed by dookie.
too bad 21st century breakdown was a huge disgusting mess of an album.

I love Green Day. I love this album. I don't care if they are mainstream, basic, political or whatever and I certainly couldn't give a rat's fucking balls what anyone thinks of that because I don't know anyone here, so fuck it!

On the topic of Green Day "suddenly" turning political. Let's take a minute and notice that American Idiot was their first post-9/11 album.

Way overrated album. half the songs are complete shit, but the other half are more than decent.

No, I think that for once (even though the singles were overplayed to death) the hype matched the product. Too bad Green Day had to go spoiling things with a gay musical and a rediculously obvious attempt at cashing in on a sequel
|
| |
not to mention they completely ripped off Dead Kennedy's California Über Alles with Extraordinary Girl.

I really hate Green Day because I see them everywhere, but I have to admit that Wake Me Up When September Ends is one of the best songs of the 2000's

A lot of complaining here. I don't try to throw too much more into the album other than the songs themselves. Sure, you may get annoyed by the "singles," but all the songs here are pretty good within the context of the album.
Why makes the concept so pretentious? There are some big ideas here. Some great commentary. A noticeable storyline and theme. Memorable songs. That's good enough for me. It doesn't have to come together perfectly for the individual parts to be valuable. Good album.

One of the first albums I could remember every line from. Gave it to my little brother about a week ago and he won't stop playing it. Just goes to show how timeless this really is.
