mogwai did pull that off a couple of times fwiw but otherwise yes lol
mono definitely epitomise the worst of post rock at points (You Are There is arse) but they also have a far better grasp of childlike wonder and melodic candyfloss at their best, so idk if i'd rate them below these guys. when i think of Hymn to the Immortal Wind, the atmosphere comes first and the crescendos far later, which is usually a healthy sign for this genre
pedal steel guitar red sparowes >> emma red sparowes, but even then they're a 2-4 song playlist band at this point fs

Hammock used to be one of my favorite bands, but they mastered this exact sound and its so cringe I can't listen to them anymore

does this sound work better for a film score / soundtrack rather than an album listen?

what was that site where you had a lil avatar and there were a bunch of them in a room and maybe 2 or 3 of them were DJs and got to pick the music, and people would either start bopping or downvote whether they like it or not
I played talk talk in a post-rock room once and got immediately kicked lol

Post-rock got homogenized real quick once everybody started biting the sound of this album, but ppl bite it cuz it’s good.
Always thought there was a lot more depth here than on any Mogwai or Mono album. It’s by far the band’s best too of course, I don’t even listen to any of the others

To be fair though, it’s hard to compare post-rock bands because it’s such a vague term. EITS, Godspeed, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, etc. always pop up in post-rock discussions together but all those bands sound completely different from each other

I listened to talk talk one time

post- anything is a vague term
I remember having a discussion with my highschool physics teacher about post-rock and he thought it was such a stupid term. "Is rock over?"
